Be a citizen of one of the participating countries and be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship; applicants that are working for their governments in another country of the region are an exception.

Not be married, engaged or in a de facto relationship with a person that holds the Australian/New Zealand citizenship, a permanent residency in Australia/New Zealand or meets all the necessary requirements to obtain a permanent residency or citizenship.
Also not be applying for a visa to be able to live in Australia; this applies for all the stages of the process, including application, selection, mobilisation phases of while on-scholarship in Australia.

Not be currently serving military personnel. |

Not have held previously a long-term scholarship funded by the Australian government, unless they have been outside of Australia twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia.

Satisfy all the admission requirements for the institution or institutions that you are applying for.
If these are not satisfied, the scholarship offer could be denied to the selected applicant.
Note: An offer or acceptance letter from the university is not required to apply for this scholarship. The AusAID Australia Awards Scholarships for Latin America Team applies directly to the university. However, the university makes the final decision on the acceptance of the candidate.

Be able to satisfy all requirements established by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in order to obtain an AusAID Student Visa 576.
If these are not satisfied, the scholarship offer could be denied to the selected applicant.

Hold relevant and verifiable work experience in one or more of the five priority sectors indicated in the present document. |

Have a genuine commitment to the development of their home country, and be willing to return to work in and for their country immediately after the scholarship has ended. |

Demonstrate their English language knowledge with the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic test, with a minimum overall score of 6.0 and not scoring less than 5.5 in any of the tests by areas: Writing, listening, speaking and reading; or its equivalent in the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test.
Note: It is a requirement to attach your TOEFL or IELTS test results to your application. The test must be valid until 1 January, 2014. The test results are only valid for two years; therefore, the test must not have been taken before 1 January 2012. The receipt for the test is not sufficient; the actual results need to be included as part of your application.
We will accept a screenshot of the results of your TOEFL or IELTS from the official website if you have not received the physical certificate by 30 April 2013. These results are available approximately two to three weeks after sitting the exam.
Please note: You need to capture all of the details of the exam in the screenshot including the exam date, registration number, name, results, etc
