The role of education and training in advancing productivity and innovation.

Description/objectives:

Collaboration in education and training between Chile and Australia has increased significantly in recent years, becoming one of the most important areas of collaboration between both countries. The Chilean Government has named Australia as one of the models it is looking towards as it reshapes its education system.

In light of the education reforms underway in both Chile and Australia, the Australia-Chile Economic Leadership Forum provides an ideal opportunity to discuss how investments in human capital, through education, science and training, can contribute towards meeting the productivity challenges facing both countries. In addition, increasing the skills base of the labour   force   helps  attract  foreign   investment   and   allows

countries to ‘move up’ the value chain by offering increasingly sophisticated goods and services. Excellence in education is a fundamental prerequisite for creating an innovative, knowledge-based economy.

This session will explore the role of education, science and training in fuelling productivity growth and in fostering innovation in the economy. Speakers and Panellists will discuss ways in which Chile and Australia can further deepen collaboration in education and training. Increasing the mobility of academics, students, and education and training providers, as well as research institutions, through collaboration at an institution-to-institution level offers great benefits to both Australia and Chile.
