Manuel Agosin is a specialist in International Economics and Macroeconomics. Since 1992 he has been Director and Full Professor of the Department of Economics at University of Chile. He is also a consultant of the Inter-American Development Bank.

Between 2001 and early 2006 he worked as Chief Economist for Central America, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico at the Operations Department of the IDB, serving such countries.

He holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University and earned his first degree at the University of Chile. He has acted as advisor for various Latin American countries and has been a consultant of the United Nations and international financial organizations. He has published various books and articles in international journals.
