Boosting trade flows and improving supply chain management.
Description/objectives:
Separated by the South Pacific Ocean, Australia and Chile rely heavily on the transport and logistics sector to sustain the bilateral trade relationship. Transport systems including road, rail, maritime and aviation, are pivotal to the economic prosperity of both countries. Growing air links are supporting ever-increasing flows of people for tourism, business and education. Our nations’ future productivity and economic competitiveness are closely tied to trade, freight transport and logistics performance.
As traditional barriers to trade, such as tariffs on imports, have fallen, businesses and governments are focusing increasingly on promoting the development of supply chains to boost trade
flows. Supply chains involving the trade of goods and services across multiple borders require efficient and reliable transport linkages, well-developed infrastructure, high levels of innovation and energy efficiency, and strategic investment in human capital.
This session will explore the transport linkages between Chile and Australia and the potential to increase and improve these in the medium to long term. Panellists will discuss ways to position Chile and Australia as gateways for greater trade integration between the Asia-Pacific Region and Latin America more broadly, including through greater collaboration on building workforce capability and investment in transport infrastructure.
