Dr. Alex Wonhas is the Executive Director Energy & Resources at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. He has responsibility for 620 researchers, who aim to provide science and technology solutions that will enhance the value Australia derives from its vast energy and mineral resources while enabling the transition to a lower emissions economy. He has responsibility for CSIRO’s Energy Flagship and the Mineral Resources Flagship. He is also the Executive Team member with responsibilities for CSIRO’s operation in Chile.
Dr Wonhas has been instrumental in shaping nationally relevant projects, such as the National Outlook Report, which is currently developing fully integrated energy, food and water projections for Australia in a global context.
In addition to a strong academic R&D background, Dr Wonhas also possesses a deep understanding of the private sector, especially in resources and energy. In his former position as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, Dr Wonhas spent several years advising national and international energy and resources companies on questions of strategy and operations.
