From September 2010 until September 2014, he was President, Copper (formerly Base Metals) of BHP Billiton. Prior to that appointment, Peter was President of BHP Billiton’s Manganese business and Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Carbon Steel Materials.

Peter joined BHP Billiton in 2003 as the Chief Development Officer for Carbon Steel Materials from the investment bank UBS. At UBS, Peter headed the Australian Advisory team for resources based in Melbourne. He has advised a range of companies on various mergers and acquisitions globally, including BHP on the merger with Billiton in 2001.

Prior to UBS, Peter worked for five years at another investment bank, Kleinwort Benson in London, again focusing on resources and utilities. Seconded by Kleinwort Benson to work on mergers and acquisitions Peter spent three years at BHP managing a variety of disposals and mergers from 1997 to 2000.

Peter is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is married with two children.
