Paul Espie

Paul established Pacific Road Group (PRG) in 1986, a Sydney based boutique investment bank focused on resources and infrastructure transactions. The US$320m private equity fund, Pacific Road Resources Fund (PRRF) was established by PRG in 2007/2008 and was followed by a second US$476m private equity fund in 2011. Both funds were funded by leading US, Australian and Asian institutional investors.

Paul previously worked in project and corporate finance roles in Melbourne, London, Los Angeles and Sydney for Bank of America. He was a Senior Vice-President and Managing Director responsible for the bank’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, servicing the top Australian resources companies. He was actively involved in the Bank’s wider Asian and merchant banking businesses.

Throughout his career he has been actively involved in the resources, infrastructure and utilities sectors in Australia and overseas.

Paul was Chairman of the Australian Infrastructure Fund, Director of Pacific Road Corporate Finance, Managing Director of Pacific Road Capital Management, the manager/advisor of/to PRRF and a Director of the Menzies Research Institute. He has been a director of Hastings Funds Management, Adelaide Brighton Cement, State Rail Corporation (NSW), Metro Transport Sydney Pty Ltd and Chairman of Freight Rail Corporation during its separation from State Rail, corporatisation and reform prior to sale by the NSW Government in 2002. He Chaired Oxiana Ltd during its emergence including the acquisition and development of the Sepon copper/gold deposits in Laos. He was previously Chairman and a principal of Cobar Mines Pty Ltd following a management buy-out of the CSA copper mine and Chairman of the Australian Merchant Bankers Association during the deregulation of the Australian financial system; He was also a member of the State Minerals Advisory Council of New South Wales.

Paul holds degrees as a Bachelor of Science from Monash University, and Master of Business Administration from Melbourne Business School and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy also a member of the Australian Committee of the Eisenhower Exchange Foundation, the Board of the Menzies Research Centre and a Trustee of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Educational Endowment Fund.
